Outward Disciplines

Simplicity

“Because we lack a divine Center our need for security has led us into an insane attachment to things. Simplicity if freedom. Simplicity is balance. It is an inward reality that results in an outward life-style.”

Solitude

The spiritual practice of removing yourself from the chaos of our modern, digital age to refocus and reconnect with God.

Submission

The freedom to give up our own rights for the good of others. It is the ability to lay down the terrible burden of always needing to get our own way. It is coming to understand that we do not have to have our own way and that our happiness is not dependent upon getting what we want.

Service

Service enables us to say “no!” to the world’s games of promotion and authority. The spiritual authority of which Jesus spoke was an authority not found in a position or a title but in a towel. In service we are banished to the mundane, the ordinary, the trivial.
